Hi friends!

As I always say, so glad to have you here! In one form or another, this blog has been around since 2011. So how come this is my first post?

It’s not my actual first post, of course. But welcome to first post of the newest iteration of Melissa’s Blog: Meadow 23. Can I say it again? Glad to have you here!

This blog now has a happy home within my professional portrait photography site. Oh happy days! The best of both worlds. Writing and photography. They say photography is “writing with light.” They also say,

What makes photography a strange invention is that its primary raw materials are light and time.
–John Berger

Fascinating! Such a simple way to distill the art of photography. For writing, its primary materials for some are pencils and paper. Like I wrote about here.

When I began in earnest to pursue photography as a business, my actual primary materials were my children. See them up there? That’s how we spent Spring Break this year. Taking photos. And it rained every day!

As you can see, I did give them umbrellas. They were nice and dry. Mostly. Until this:

Sometimes photos are powerful because they are silent. They stand as quiet witnesses to our life.

Not this photo!

This photo sparked lots of noise for our family. Happy noise. The squeals of the kids as they each rushed to splash mud all over the other one. The squish of boots as we walked back to the car. And finally, when we looked at the photos that evening, the heated debate as to who splashed who more.

I’m thankful for that day. For still hearing the echoes of the happiness we shared. And I’m thankful you clicked through, and read this post! Let me know if you’d like to schedule a session to hold on to your own family’s happy moments.

Until then, glad to have you here!

  2. Like I said, “Welcome back!” I love it that you have returned and it is already obvious what a talented photographer you are! This first happy post is already eye candy.
